Anguilla Summer Festival: An Exotic Opportunity For Caribbean Celebration

August is eventful in the Caribbean year on year, with the Anguilla Summer Festival (also known as the Anguilla Carnival) giving a delightful start to a great month on the exotic land!

From the Bahamas’ Native Fishing Tournament, to Deer Dance Day in Belize and Tobago’s Heritage Festival, there is a LOT going on at this time in the Caribbean.

One of the most looked forward events of all, however – and a yearly celebration that has become a tradition on the island – is the much anticipated Anguilla Summer Festival. In 2015 it happens between the 30th July and 9th August – you can find our recommendations of what to do in this article.

The festival commenced on Thursday July 30th, starting with a grand opening at the Landsome Bowl Cultural Center. A fireworks display kicked off the summer celebration.

The festival will continue until Sunday August 9th, with about 10 days of fun, sun, and partying throughout the day and night.

From the kick-off in the Valley, to street dancing, parties at Meads Bay, and performances at Sandy Ground beach (pictured below), the whole island of Anguilla gets into the festival mood.

After the grand opening ceremony and fireworks, the highlight of the festival was, like every year, August Monday (August 3rd), also known as the Caribbean’s best and biggest beach party.

The date commemorates Anguilla’s Emancipation Day, and features musical and dance performances, boat racing, and many more exotic activities at the island’s most famous beach – Sandy Ground.

With several beauty and talent pageants throughout the week, the most anticipated is the Miss Anguilla Pageant at the Landsome Bowl Center on August 6th. On the same day tourists will also enjoy the August Thursday Boat & Beach Party at Meads Bay.

While boat races are scheduled almost every day throughout the festival, the most important race that you also don’t want to miss takes place on Sunday, August 9th.

It’s called the “Champion of Champions” race, and is the Carnival Grand Finale celebrating the 75th year of the island’s national sport of boat racing in 2015.

You can check out recent videos and photos, stay up to date with what’s happening at the Festival, and make sure to be reminded of it next year by liking the Anguilla Summer Festival facebook page.
